Regular Show Sad Sax

Mordecai recruits the help of Sad Sax Guy to help him reconcile with C.J.

The subject of romance in Regular Show was something that did catch my interest in the first few seasons. However, with all the unnecessary drama and “will they/won’t they” situations, especially in relationships involving Mordecai, I’ve all but lost my enthusiasm for it. After the huge disappointment that was the previous episode I wasn’t really expecting much out of this one, and wouldn’t you know it, I was right.

To begin with, this episode suffered from its predictability. Your average episode of Regular Show has at least one interesting development, but this was an exception.  It was obvious from the start that the episode would follow a pattern: Mordecai gets advice from the Sad Sax Guy (an enjoyable character, and of the few highlights of the episode) to get C.J. back, Margaret indirectly butts in and/or Mordecai messes things up, and C.J. storms out. The episode had some bad pacing as well; it was hard to believe that I had watched an 11 minute episode when it felt more like 5. The episode could’ve taken so many different directions, too. I would’ve liked to see C.J. and Margaret actually speak to each other, but of course that just had to be put aside in favor of comedy. The worst part was that there wasn’t really a proper build-up to the ending. I’m glad that there was a happy ending instead of additional drama, but the brevity and shallowness of the episode hardly makes up for it. This episode speedily ties up the loose ends of “Merry Christmas Mordecai”, but overall this is a bland and uninspired episode that leaves a lot to be desired.
